Ideal for snow travel | Aggressive single-curve shaft | Optional sliding leash
Ipretty much only use and sell this model for ski touring. Anything heavier would have no advantage for this sport. If you need a heavier axe to swing the pick into hard crust or ice, you should be on belay. For me, that's a different sport when the ropes come out. The nanotech has sharp steel points however, and a curved shaft. That comes into play when the snow slope gets into the 40-50 degree range. You need a slightly curved shaft to set the axe down into the snow parallel to the slope. This comes up in the steeper angles because the snowpack gets too thin for sinking the shaft in perpendicular. I like how the narrow shaft and point slides into hard snow easily. I don't use a leash, as that would prevent me from switching hands during direction changes. I also love Camp boot crampons. Bring in your boot so we can see which ones fit best.
Mike S | Owner
The most advanced mountaineering ice axe on the market. Employs the same 7075-T6 aluminum alloy as the hyperlight Corsa, but features innovative Sandvik Nanoflex® steel reinforcements on the pick and spike. The steel components dramatically increase the durability and strength of these critical points without significantly increasing the weight of the axe. In addition, the Corsa Nanotech has an aggressive single-curve shaft that provides better clearance without interfering with walking or plunging performance. Can be fit with either the sliding leash (1305) for mountaineering or the Alpina leash (1304) for alpine climbing.
