"With a slight graphics refresh for 2023, the Dynastar M-Pro 90 remains the same awesome all-mountain ski that we’ve loved for a few years now. Built with Dynastar’s Hybrid wood core and their titanal rocket frame laminate, these skis are great choices for true all-mountain skiers. The core is very interesting, as it contains a poplar central chord with ABS material on the outsides. It’s basically like extending the sidewalls into the middle of the ski, and it gives the M-Pro a vastly different character than some other skis in the same range. The metal laminate is thinner and more central in the front of the ski, full width underfoot, and wider in the tails. This makes for a more flexible and floatier front half with a more business-like back end. We’ve referred to this as a reverse-mullet style of ski, and we’re sticking to it. In the 178, the skis generate an 18-meter turn radius, and this is on the long side for these 88-90 all-mountain skis, and that puts more emphasis on the skier and their whim as to the shape, nature, and duration of the turn. The tip has some decent rocker to it, so these 90’s float pretty well through the fresh while keeping the carving to a maximum.
Dave Hatoff notes that his 178 cm tester skied true to size, scoring it 4’s out of 5 for overall impression, versatility, torsional stiffness, edge hold, playfulness, quickness, maneuverability, and stability. Forgiveness and flotation each got 3’s, so we’re seeing a pretty high spread of scores from Dave here. “Advanced to expert skiers would appreciate the front side capabilities of the 90. Light in the tips and strong in the tails, this ski leads you into a turn nicely and lets you finish it off with power coming out of the tail. Lightweight, a lot of pop, energy and rebound out of each turn. Groomers, ice, bumps, trees. A great ski for the East.” Mark MacDonald found his 178 to be great and scored it 4’s out of 5 for overall impression, versatility, playfulness, quickness, maneuverability, stability, and flotation. He gave torsional stiffness and edge hold 3’s and forgiveness a 2, showing the stiffer nature of the ski. “Overall a Fantastic all mountain ski. Really good versatile ski from moguls to groomers to light powder.”
Connor Gorham stated that his 178 was a “solid size. Fast-lap felt like I needed to be a little heavier to keep the wide tip quiet. Held strong edge and confident carves in the afternoon sugar shuffle. Caught some cool air off a side knuckle and part of the coolness was from me, part was the ski that put me in a place to succeed!” His top marks of 4 out of 5 went for torsional stiffness, edge hold, stability, and flotation, with the rest of the scores as 3’s. Chris McLelland noted that his 178 felt a little short, mostly due to the fact that “The M-Pro 90 had a surfy feel to it in short turns which was perfect for bumps and trees. The edge hold was pretty decent and I liked the response when I pushed into it. The edges didn’t hold onto the turn for too long either, it’s really easy to disengage them when you need to. I would use this as a tree/bump ski, but those looking for a well-rounded platform to explore the whole resort will be very happy with this ski.”
It’s a whole lot of fun, but the edge hold and finishing kick to the turn is quite impressive. For true all-mountain versatility to go along with strong on-piste performance, it doesn’t get a whole lot more intuitive and user-friendly than the Dynastar M-Pro 90."
