"It’s been a good run for the Dynastar M-Pro 99, but we still think it could go better. These skis have a lot more performance and potential than they may let on. Unchanged but for graphics for 2023, the M-Pro 99 remains a very well-rounded ski with an interesting build and shape that sets it apart from other skis in the range. When we first got on them, what seems like eons ago, we were surprised at the agility in softer snow to go along with their carving prowess on-piste. It was a rare combination for sure, and while we were expecting Enforcer-like behavior, we got something totally different, and simply more fun. The longer turn radius and more pin-tail/javelin style shovel allows the skier to be in more control over the shape and duration of the turn. The use of Dynastar’s Hybrid wood core, combining poplar wood with ABS material on the sides gives the ski a very quiet, smooth, and energetic feel that is not replicated anywhere else in the ski world. With a partial metal laminate keeping the ski hooked up in the mid-section and the tail, the finishing kick to the M-Pro 99’s turn is quite strong. It’s a very interesting blend of attributes in this ski, and we’ve loved every one of ‘em in the past, and going into the future.
On the 186, Bob St.Pierre notes that it’s the “perfect length for me in this ski—a great balance of quickness, agility, and power.” Bob scored the ski all 4’s across the board with a lone 5 out of 5 for overall impression. It’s always interesting to see that overall impression score tower above the rest. Bob “Loves this ski. Tell it to do something and it does. Can make quick and short turns or longer and more GS-oriented carves. Great in the trees and powder, and while it's a bit on the stiff side for moguls, it's still not too bad. Overlooked by a lot of skiers for some reason. Hoping to end that before it goes away.” We’ll keep pumping the M-Pro as a leader in the “unsung hero” category as long as it takes.

Ryan Daniel also found his 186 to be perfect, and he scored it top marks of 5 out of 5 for versatility, torsional stiffness, edge hold, and flotation. Stability, playfulness, forgiveness, and overall impression all got 4’s while quickness and maneuverability received 3’s. Ryan states that the “Ski held great once on edge, getting on edge was strange, may have been the tune. Super stable at speed even with the tip rocker. The tail was stiff and supportive.” It’s great to hear that a skier with Ryan’s racing background finds this 99’s tail to be the way that it is—lends credence to the ski’s personality and character for sure. Steve McKenzie found his 178 to be a bit longer than expected, and we’re seeing 4’s out of 5 for versatility, torsional stiffness, edge hold, playfulness, quickness, and maneuverability. Overall impression, forgiveness, stability, and flotation all got 3’s. Steve notes that for him, the skis “Needed a little more weight behind it getting into the crud with speed. Decent amount of chatter at higher speeds than I prefer. Different conditions could make for a better experience. Overall, not a bad pair of skis. Good flex tip to tail and nice pop on them.”
With a different feel and personality than a lot of other skis in the class, the Dynastar M-Pro 99 carves out its own niche, and we stand behind our previous sentiments that this is a skier’s ski in that the input and drive has to be there in order to maximize the performance. When you do, it’s a very fun and intuitive ski that can do it all, from short quick turns to longer carves, and most off-piste zones as well."
